Missed a GLP-1 dose? Here's what to do
Official missed-dose rules for every major GLP-1 · Last updated August 26, 2026
The quick answer
Most weekly GLP-1s have a catch-up window — 5 days for Ozempic, 4 days for Mounjaro and Zepbound, 48-hours-before-next-dose for Wegovy. Daily GLP-1s are simpler: skip and resume tomorrow. Never take two doses to make up for one, and call your prescriber if you've missed several.
Missed-dose rules by medication
| Medication | If you miss a dose |
|---|---|
| Ozempic® | Take within 5 days of the missed dose; after that, skip and resume your schedule. |
| Wegovy® | If your next dose is more than 48 hours away, take it as soon as possible; otherwise skip. 2+ missed doses → talk to your prescriber. |
| Mounjaro® | Take within 4 days (96 hours); after that, skip and resume your schedule. |
| Zepbound® | Take within 4 days (96 hours); never take two doses within 3 days of each other. |
| Saxenda® | Take the same day if you remember; otherwise skip. 3+ days missed → your prescriber may restart at 0.6 mg. |
| Rybelsus® | Skip the missed pill and take your next dose the following day. Never take two in one day. |
| Trulicity® | Take it if your next dose is at least 3 days (72 hours) away; otherwise skip. |
| Victoza® | Skip and resume your once-daily schedule. 3+ days missed → your prescriber may restart at 0.6 mg. |
These summaries reflect publicly available prescribing information and may change. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide don’t share one official label — follow your prescriber’s instructions. Your care team always has the final word.
Why the window exists: half-life
Weekly GLP-1s work because the medication builds a steady level that declines slowly between doses — semaglutide’s half-life is about a week, tirzepatide’s about 5 days. A dose taken a day or two late barely dents that curve, which is why the labels allow a catch-up window. Daily medications like liraglutide clear in around 13 hours, so there’s nothing to catch up — you simply resume. DoseDash’s medication-level chart makes this visible: log your doses and you can literally see the curve a missed dose leaves behind.
Missed-dose FAQ
Should I ever double up after missing a GLP-1 dose?
No. No GLP-1 label recommends taking two doses to make up for a missed one — doubling up raises the risk of nausea, vomiting and low blood sugar. When in doubt, skip and call your prescriber.
Why do the missed-dose windows differ between medications?
The window follows each drug's half-life. Semaglutide (about a week) and tirzepatide (about 5 days) stay in your system long enough that a slightly late weekly dose still keeps levels steady, while daily liraglutide clears in hours — so its rules focus on the same day.
What if I keep forgetting doses?
A tracker with reminders fixes most missed doses. DoseDash reminds you on your dose day, shows exactly how long it's been since your last dose, and tells you which side of your medication's window you're on.
I missed several doses in a row — can I just restart?
Not on your own. After multiple missed weekly doses (or 3+ days off a daily GLP-1), prescribers often restart at a lower dose to limit side effects. Bring your dose history to that conversation — DoseDash can export it as a PDF.
Never play catch-up again
